As an intern at Highland Support Project (HSP), my role is to assist in everyday projects and social media engagement. My main role at HSP is developing/creating an ecological sustainability program. The goal of the program is to teach about ecological sustainability, in educational institutions as well as working outside of the classroom to put sustainability efforts into action. Most of my work is focused on online research as well as networking with individuals who work/have knowledge in similar areas of sustainability, in order to plan and develop pollinator gardens.

    • President of Highland Support Project Club
      • Aug 2021 - Present

As President of the Highland Support Project club at Virginia Commonwealth University, it is my responsibilty to assist and develop activities and events. As I start my role as club president, I am working with other club officers to set long term and short term goals for the club. While setting and achieving goals, I also work with club members to plan events and raise awareness for them. The goal of the club is to host events and learning activities that discuss DEEP ecology and philosophy and how we can make everyday changes in our lifestyles to live more sustainably, as well as holding corporations accountable for their actions. "DEEP" stands for Deep Ecology Education Program. This club strives to teach students and others philosophy and environmental movement on the impact human lifestyle has on the environment and how they can better themselves. One of the club's core messages is to fight for climate action, not for the sake of society, but because the ecosystem and Earth should be protected for their own sake and intrinsic value

    • Event Organizer
      • Aug 2021 - Present

I am organizing a music event called Rally in the Alley. Ralley in the Alley is a fun music event, the goal of which is to not only have local Richmond bands come together and perform, but to also come together and fundraise for climate action. Though the event is free, all the proceeds made from drinks and food sold at the venue will go towards reforestation in Guatemala and pollinator gardens here in Richmond, VA. This is the first-ever Ralley in the Alley. This event featured nine bands: Nancy Raygun, Ten Pound Snail, Spacemere, Saturn Death Cult, Wholly Ghost, Slug Club, Wrong Worshippers, Black Button, and Bad Nirvana.

      • Aug 2021 - Present

For about the entirety of the spring semester of 2022, I was the primary organizer of the Rally in the Alley for Reforestation event. My role was to guide my club in organizing the creative aspects, and also to learn and understand how music works. My role was to focus on the more technical part of organizing music events, managing sound systems, organizing setlists, markets, and more. We are currently working on a Women's Reforestation project, this project partners with a nursery run by Indigenous Mayan women to plant native trees and provide economic opportunities for the local community. Due to a lack of water that can be tapped into through aquifers, we are fundraising to build rainwater irrigation systems to help collect water for the tree nurseries. This event was the fundraiser for this cause. This event turned out to be one the best events held at this venue, not only successfully raising money but also creating a space for different members of the community to come together and join together in supporting a cause.

    • Gallery/Science Education Intern
      • May 2021 - Aug 2021

During my time at the Science Museum of Virginia I spent time assisting the museum to help maintain every day functions, while learning about the museum and how to communicate science in a way that is effective and easy to understand for people of all ages and backgrounds. While working in exhibits and labs, I also worked on project ideas and developments to create projects to either go into an exhibit, become part of a learning experience, or go on one of the museum's online platforms. My final project for the museum was a Science Short (video) on plant germination and how plants grow in the dark compared to how they grow in the light. The Science Short is paired with a STEM at Home Activity, instructing how to perform the activity at home, as well as highlighting a scientist who has studied a similar topic.

    • Horticulture Intern
      • Apr 2020 - Aug 2020

As an intern at Chadwick and Sons Orchids I spent most of my experience handling plants. My experience with plants revolved mainly around repotting plants and keeping them healthy in the greenhouse, as well as taking care of them based on their needs. I also learned how to maintain and run a greenhouse. During my time at Chadwick and Sons Orchids, I gained experience in floral arrangements. Studying orchids and other tropical plants I was able learn about the special care each plant needs and their features. Using what I learned I was able to create floral arrangements for the store as well as custom arrangements for customers.

At the end of the year I helped the girls use their coding skills to build a website. The website was about the Australian wild-fires, and provided information on how people can help.
