    • Director Centre for Educational Technology and Interoperability Standards
      • Sep 2003 - Apr 2015

JISC CETIS is an Innovation Support Centre for UK Higher and Post-16 Education sectors funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC), and managed by the University of Bolton. The Centre provides strategic advice to JISC, supports its development programmes, represents the sector on international standardisation bodies and works with the educational community to facilitate the use of standards-based e-learning. In recent years, the rapid uptake of e-learning has given greater impetus to efforts in learning technology interoperability, requiring the creation of learning technology standards. These have been developed most notably in IMS but also in Europe with CEN/ISSS and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and ISO (International Standards Organization). For over ten years JISC CETIS has played an active part in these bodies developing standards in a wide range of e-learning domains including: content, metadata, enterprise, assessment, learning information, accessibility and learning design. JISC CETIS ensures that the UK Higher Education, Further Education and other post-16 education institutions are involved in the development and implementation of educational technology standards by running events for communities with particular interests. In addition we also run Expert Working Groups which develop specifications and community guidance on emerging technologies. Our work also involves providing direct support to JISC for a number of their development programmes, including the JISC e-Learning Programme, and the e-Framework. Show less
