Global Citizen Year is an educational non-profit organization that recruits and trains high school seniors to participate in an immersion-based international bridge year before starting college. As part of the Fellowship program, I was assigned to live 8 months in Senegal. I spent 3 weeks in Dakar as part of GCY initial language training and later I was located in Nguéniène (Thiès Region, Prefecture of Mbour). Once at my assigned site, I participated in local community projects related to food security, supply networks, and grassroots investments. The completion of the program required a final community project, which in my case was the installment and launch of affordable internet access for two schools and local health post. Show less
