My first interaction with Darin Overstreet was when I served as Public Affairs Observer/Controller during Colorado's 2013 Vigilant Guard multi-agency exercise. He had an ambitious plan for the VG public affairs mission for VG, capitalizing on the exercise as a training event uniting two units with very different cultures, while including real-world media engagement. Darin's creative leadership and team building in action was very impressive. The way everyone came together and truly found enjoyment working with one another, essentially forming a new team. My close-out report noted that VG CO was among the best examples of a truly Joint Public Affairs effort that effectively bridged the gap between the state's Air and Army National Guard Public Affairs units. Darin's leadership, and the trust and vision he instilled in his people, were key to this success.
