I started out by supporting Forward labs projects, designing parts and assemblies made with 3D-printers and CNC-machines.In fall 2015 I transferred to Espoo and started working with a new, forward looking product with a small cross functional team. I innovated the product concept with a team, mostly focusing on mechanical aspect. For this product I: • Designed rough 3D models of the whole product for FEM drop simulation, so that product structure could be optimized. I did several iterations of the model, each time diving into more details.• Designed a new type of fixing method for USB connector, which came out great. After a round of FEM, Antenna and EMC simulations, it was presented to upper management at Microsoft. • Designed an assembly made out of fabrics and films, trying different combinations by using laser cutter and heat press. For testing the assembly, I developed a testing jig with a mechanism. We were able to test and optimize the assembly for several rounds and found out lifetime for the assembly.• Innovated, developed and optimized several mechanisms, first by modeling them so that they worked in Catia, and then printing scaled models with 3D-printers. Target of the thesis was to find out how different color combinations affect to visual appearance of assembly variation (visual robustness). My goal was also to learn processes that were in use at Microsoft, Six Sigma process, tolerance calculation process and how to take user perspective into account in design with Voice of the Customer process.I learned about how to do Design of Experiment studies and how to use Minitab software. As a result of the thesis I found out visually hardest color combinations at assemblies. This way designers could know how important tight assembly tolerances are at different color interfaces. I graduated on time with good grades. Show less

Summer Trainee: Mechanics
-
May 2014 - Sep 2014
I worked in Lumia 950 XL mechanics team. I developed layouts for mechanical and electrical components with strict space restrictions. I calculated tolerances for assemblies and made drawings for several parts. I also designed aluminum jigs for assemblies and testing. My biggest task was to design a protective cover for Lumia 950 XL independently from start to production. I took in consideration appearance, ergonomics, fit and finish. I supported and oversaw subcontractor in production phase, provided drawings and discussed tolerances. Design hiding cover fulfill expectations by hiding original industrial design of the phone and still feeling and looking nice and ergonomic in hand. Show less
