Orion and I worked on a large software development project. Orion excelled at communicating options, trade-offs and charting the best course of action. His in-depth software development and information system knowledge was invaluable to the projects success. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Orion again.

I worked with Orion at a previous employer and found him to be a valuable resource. I started a new job and had some IT issues to think through. Even though he was on another continent, we connected via email and skype. He started off by framing the issues in his very easy manner and then recommended some courses of action which included, among other things, developing an IT strategy. He provided helpful tools to get me started on the process and advised on how to engage outside consultants. Thanks to the early intervention and advice he gave I saved several thousand dollars in consultants fees. The real benefit is that his advice enabled me to form an internal team, get them focused and with the work we completed we were able to leverage the work of the consultants to implement our plans much more effectively. Time spent with Orion is worth every minute. Bonus-he is really nice and fun to work with.

Orion and I overlapped for three months at the Council in the technology leadership role; he did an awe-inspiring turnaround job with technology underpinnings of the Council in a compressed, intense engagement here. His subject matter experience with non-profit organizations and hard-core technology chops at the infrastructure, data and applications layers are a killer combination - but it's his entrepreneurial openness to ideas, capacity to synthesize with them, and ability to explain, persuade, and move people to action that makes him a transformational leader. I learned a lot from him, consider him a partner and collegial collaborator, and can't wait to see what he's going to do in the future.

Rotary International is an organization of service clubs known as Rotary Clubs located all over the world. The stated purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. It is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or political preference. Rotary's best-known motto is "Service above Self". As a board and club member, I work with various committees and groups to advance the Rotary ideals in Alaska. Specifically focusing on service to others, advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship. I'm proud of my club and the work we do in Alaska and around the world. Our club projects have included everything from building local library rooms for teenagers, a planet walk to enhance our city, to drilling wells in Africa to provide clean water.

Introspect Software

President
-
Jan 1997 - 2001
Introspect Software was a software development company that I founded out of high school. Several successful software products were created, most notably Mouse Odometer, a free mouse-tracking program that measures the distance your mouse has traveled on the screen. It has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times, and mentioned on several occasions in many diverse media outlets, including on CNN ZDNet, Kim Commando radio show, Howard Stern, Maxim Magazine, and Scientific American. Mouse Odometer was re-branded in France as "Ultrameter" and built as a custom viral marketing platform for L'Oreal, Siemens, Volkswagen, and UBISoft. Although the projects were a "success", the traditional financial gauge of success would not agree. This company was my first entrepreneurial adventure, and a powerful learning opportunity on how to create and lead a start-up.
