While working with a team of two individuals, I led the resuscitation of a cell culture laboratory that was set up to carry out enterovirus research and environmental surveillance within Lagos State. This entailed collection of sewage samples from specific sites, virus concentration of such samples, isolation of viruses in culture from such samples using different cell lines, molecular characterization of isolates recovered, sequencing of amplicons with band size of interest and carrying out phylogenetic analysis on sequences obtained.I spearheaded the running a cell culture laboratory that entailed preparation of cell culture reagents, sub-culturing of cell lines and routine optimization of cell culture protocolsThis also consisted of maintenance of cell lines such as Hep-G2, BHK, Vero, MCF-7 and RD which facilitated in optimising the protocols for cell culture within the laboratory upon set up within the institute.

I worked with a diligent team that carry out molecular diagnoses of COVID-19 in one of the most burdened states in the country. I (in conjunction with my team members) analyzed about 300-400 samples daily using automated and manual extraction protocols followed by qPCR. Our work led to the diagnosis of over 10,000 samples which include those from community testing and isolation centersI also functioned as an assistant data entry officer. This involved routine accessioning of samples coming into the laboratory for analysis as a first step to ascertain that no errors are encountered in dispersing results to the appropriate parties. This I achieve by ensuring a correspondence between the IDs on the shipping manifest and sample bottles.

    • Laboratory Postings
      • Jun 2017 - Mar 2018

I underwent laboratory rotations in various units such as; Haematology, Molecular, Cell Culture, Virus Isolation, sample processing, Serology, Cytometry and Chemistry at the department as part of the requirements for my M.Sc. degree. I was, as a result, equipped with adequate knowledge as regards clinical diagnosis of viruses, research, basic biosafety precautions, and biohazard wastes disposal, with which I was able to complete a research project for my M.Sc degree. I was able to equip post-secondary students with adequate knowledge required to prepare for their qualification exams which include WASSCE, NECO, and JAMB. A number of these students went on to gain admission into higher institutions of learning.I was able to balance teaching two distinct subjects, at often times, back to back without mixing up the details while the students paid adequate attention to each lesson. • Secondary School Teacher
      • Nov 2015 - Oct 2016

Here, I did a service to my nation by teaching grade10 (SSS 1) biology with a population of about 100 students per class in a school that had a shortage of teachers for the entire students in the senior high school. Moreso, I participated in after school tutorial lessons for the students as required.I also participated in both Peer Education Training (PET) and Junior Engineer and Technician clubs as a Community Development Scheme (CDS) and intellectual development organization respectively so as to equip the teenagers with knowledge in sexual reproductive health and academics development.

    • Student Industrial Work Experience (SIWES) Student
      • Jul 2014 - Sep 2014

This was my first industrial experience where I was opened up to the formal laboratory setting. I participated in data entry and setting up the laboratory bench for sample analysis in the Chemical pathology, Microbiology, and Haematologic unit at two laboratories in the same institution.
