Rod is an absolute gift to work with. He has a very balanced mindset of the engineer "Let's get this done and move quickly" versus the product "How are we measuring this and solving the right problems?" This is a really difficult line to walk, but every task put onto Rod's plate was met with a level of ownership and experience that speaks to both of these ideologies every step of the way. As a team member, you can always expect that Rod is going to ask the right questions and carry forward with complete autonomy, however it's the intangibles that set Rod a league above his peers: Warm, kind, generous with his time, transparent in his work, and not afraid to ask the difficult questions. It's these things that solidify Rod as a complete professional and leader in his field, and it will be a gift to get the chance to work with him again.

If you need a web expert who is talented, communicates effectively, and is genuinely a pleasure to work with, Rod is your guy. We worked together closely while building a website workflow tool in Wordpress and creating general solutions for Club Penguin Island's website. Rod is committed to knowing the technical requirements around a project—if he doesn't, he will spend dedicated time to research information that benefits him and the team's workflow. He then is able to distill the information in a digestible format and communicate it which allows the team to continue working on their part with the confidence of knowing their solution could work. "Jamming" on a user interface problem with him was one of the highlights of my role at Disney as we would get to solve a problem together and marry the user experience requirements to the technical limitations of Wordpress. I honestly almost never heard a "No, we can't do that" from Rod—instead, it was a "Let me look into that" and a delivery of multiple proposed solutions with the potential scope. While documentation was always very detailed, I never had to sit down and go over every aspect with Rod. He's truly a developer who understands the benefit of good user experience and can fill in gaps based on existing behaviour, as well as provide suggestions based on his viewpoint and vast experience. This was definitely apparent when he would bring up accessibility and responsive considerations during the development of a new feature. His collaboration skills, honest respect of my opinion and UX, and technical knowledge of all things web, make Rod a developer I will measure up my future web developers to.
