Short Term Mission Work
-
2008 - 2012
I have served on short-term mission teams that traveled to Guyana in South America, Uganda in Africa, and Israel. While overseas, God opened my eyes to the plight of His people. He broke my heart and gave me a love for them, their countries and customs. Those trips have made me think long and hard about some of the things I take for granted – things like water…family…life – to name just a few. “How do I reconcile what I’ve seen with what I have?” is a question that will forever haunt me. While overseas, God also showed me the faith, love and devotion that many natives have for Jesus that those of us state-side would do well to imitate. This practical experience serving in missions will be invaluable to the humanitarian organizations I write for. I "get" what you do and why you do it because I've been there and have seen the need.

Sole Proprietor
-
2003 - 2008
Established and ran my own home baking business that included pies, specialty cakes, fudge, and cookies. My “job” included everything from procurement of supplies, to baking and packaging, cleaning-up, marketing and signage, setting up and selling at semi-weekly Farmer’s Markets plus various other outlets. Grandma Gail’s earned such a good reputation, that after 5 years I had to either expand my facilities and hire additional help or let it go. The first wasn’t an option. Administrative Assistant to the President

1987 - 2000
In 2 1/2 years, with no college education, I worked my way up from part-time switchboard operator to Sales Secretary, then Human Resources Assistant, and ultimately to Administrative Assistant to the President of a manufacturing company with 250 employees. Prepared presentations, brochures, correspondence, flyers. Set up Corporate Meetings. I did anything required to assist those I worked for. Also justified the purchase of the first desktop computer in the company outside of I.T. Self-taught in all computer applications. Instituted "Motivators," a group within the company whose mission was to bring employees and their families together for social functions outside of the workplace to promote relationship and good will; i.e. children's Christmas parties, picnics, blood drives, etc...
