Omar leads with clarity, joy, humility, and an eye for equity. I worked for Omar for four years and under his leadership, our middle school grew from one grade level to three. His strengths in community building and his operational talents were a combination that built a thriving school. Omar's leads with reflectiveness and humility. I learned so much about leadership from his willingness to own his own actions, seek out feedback, and actively grow personally and professionally. In 1-1 interactions and in staff meetings and professional development that Omar lead, his model helped our team members adopt the same open, growth-oriented stance, and this was one of the keys to the success of the school. He is a supportive supervisor and coach who also does not shy away from the hard conversations that are necessary to having a team that actually pursues excellence. Omar led our team into deep conversations about race and equity and how these impacted our personal relationships, classrooms, and student outcomes. Some of the conversations that have most shaped my professional growth happened with Omar we debriefed my work and my approach, both my strengths and my growth areas. These conversations were possible because of the honest and open space that Omar had created. Omar also has a knack for bringing joy to the routine of work and school life. He ran weekly school-wide assemblies that built community and drew out and celebrated the strengths, identities and cultures of our students, staff, and community members. These assemblies got students laughing, cheering, and motivated to read and learn math, and modeled vulnerability and sincerity without losing the spark of fun. On a daily basis, his puns kept students and teachers grinning and our students loved the visits from Black Panther or Mr. Bee (in full bee costume). Omar's talents in operations also reached every corner of our school in positive ways. From scheduling to logistics to technology, he was behind the scenes making the school run like clockwork. He made sure that all of the technology hardware, programs, and systems were integrated and fully functional, and led clear and actionable trainings for staff on making the most of these resources. He partnered with teacher leaders and the rest of the admin team to build a clear and effective discipline management system that was consistently implemented across the school and supported student growth and learning. Omar is an incredible leader and person, and I am so lucky to have gotten to work for him!

I had the pleasure to work with a coach that was both my mentor and my friend. Omar and I worked closely together for three years and he helped me take my meta-cognitive and teaching skills to another level. Omar is dedicated, hard-working, equity-driven, and an innovator. One of Omar's strengths that stands out to me was his passion to create an inclusive and safe environment not only for students but also for staff. Even when situations got serious Omar always had a well-timed dad joke to relieve pressure. Omar was the ultimate boss and coach and he would be an asset to any company.
