Summer Intern - Real Estate Department
-
Jul 2021 - Aug 2023
During my summer internship at Unique People Services, a prominent organization specializing in offering affordable housing to individuals with mental illness and AIDS, I had the invaluable opportunity to contribute to their Real Estate Department. This role provided me with hands-on experience in the real estate industry and a chance to make a meaningful impact. My responsibilities encompassed a variety of tasks aimed at streamlining property management and tenant relations. I played a pivotal role in reaching out to property owners to facilitate lease acquisition, an essential function that enabled the organization to expand its portfolio of properties. This involved effective communication, negotiation skills, and attention to detail. One of the highlights of my internship was conducting property visits to both existing holdings and prospective acquisitions. These visits allowed me to gain firsthand insights into the physical condition of the properties and their suitability for the organization's mission. This experience enhanced my ability to evaluate properties critically and assess their potential for providing quality housing. In addition, I had the privilege of working with a comprehensive computer software application designed to manage properties, tenants, rents, and leases. My involvement extended from data entry to overseeing the migration of critical information onto the platform. I played a vital role in the successful implementation of this software, which not only simplified the organization's property management processes but also enabled tenants to connect with the company more efficiently. In summary, my internship at Unique People Services equipped me with valuable skills in property management, negotiation, and software implementation. The experience solidified my passion for real estate and deepened my commitment to making a positive impact on individuals' lives through affordable housing solutions. Show less

During the fall and winter semesters, I had the distinct privilege of interning at the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, a hub for fostering creativity and business acumen. My experience was marked by an engaging project that involved collaborating with a multimillion-dollar company to address a real-world challenge. I was assigned to a dedicated team with the task of crafting a solution to a pressing issue faced by the company. Through weekly meetings and extensive research, my group and I delved into the intricacies of the challenge, seeking innovative ways to provide valuable insights. Our approach was guided by both our collective expertise and regular interactions with the company's CEO. These sessions allowed us to gain a deep understanding of the company's operations and vision, enabling us to tailor our solution effectively. Over the course of 10 weeks, our team diligently crafted a comprehensive solution, harnessing critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills. The culmination of our efforts led to a presentation of our proposed solution to the company's leadership. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with the company not only endorsing our solution but also considering the implementation of some of our suggestions. This experience was a crash course in entrepreneurship. It taught me the essence of identifying challenges, developing innovative solutions, and effectively presenting ideas to stakeholders. The practical exposure also allowed me to refine my critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork abilities.
