I joined Crystal Run Healthcare, a multispecialty physician group practice and the largest private employer in Orange and Sullivan Counties in New York State, in 2011. I started at an entry level position as a Patient Service Rep which I loved because it required face to face interactions with patients and relationship building, two things that I excel at. After serving in that capacity for three years I advanced to the position of Unit Secretary which allowed me to continue to utilize my people skills, but also build relationships and earn the respect of nurses and providers. Since I am always looking for new challenges and additional responsibilities I applied for, and was accepted to, the position of Administrative Assistant for ACO Special Projects. In this role I work side by side with executive level leaders in the organization and am responsible for assisting in the development and project management of multiple large projects that focus on improving the clinical quality and experience of care for our patients. The largest project that I manage is the practice’s variation reduction program which seeks to increase awareness of and adherence to evidence based best practice guidelines for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Other project management responsibilities include organizing and gathering clinical quality data for monthly primary and specialty care medical home meetings, building an online library of best practice guidelines that are utilized by providers at the point of care, and the creation of an online repository of specifications for the clinical quality measures by which the practice’s providers are evaluated. Finally, I am able to leverage the computer skills and knowledge of the practice’s electronic health record that I developed during my earlier positions in the practice to audit clinical quality data reports that feed multiple dashboards that the providers use to track and trend performance.
