Marion Lozano
From the perspective of an audio engineer, Olivia stands out as a fantastic writer because of her ability to harness sound into her stories. Olivia finds every excuse to gather audio from the field, in interviews, or by building news montages. She is endlessly creative in how she incorporates sound into her writing and is constantly absorbing new recording techniques and audio editing skills. Her strategy in developing a story is truly inspiring as a teammate and she never ceases to amaze me.

I joined Grid, shortly before launch, to design our audio strategy and launch our first audio products. My first assignment: figure out what a 'click-to-listen' feature, embedded within our stories, will sound like. Should it be a straight read-through of the story? Or should it be a more casual sit-down with the reporter? These were the questions I had to start with, building our first audio offering from the ground up. Meanwhile: I've been designing what our flagship podcast will sound like, hosted by Vox co-founder Matthew Yglesias.

Most recently: I was the lead producer on POLITICO's new flagship podcast, Global Insider. I produced conversations with presidents and world leaders, including NATO's Jens Stoltenberg. Before that: I oversaw POLITICO's newscast operation. I assigned stories and edited scripts for major events, like Election Night 2020 and the attack on the Capitol. On the side: I sometimes wrote stories for POLITICO. I published longform magazine pieces, contributed to Playbook and wrote breaking news stories on tight deadlines. For fun: I took photos, some of which POLITICO occasionally published. This fall, they published my 35mm photos of a behind-the-scenes look at the United Nations General Assembly.
