The Minority Advisement Program is a mentoring program for freshmen and transfer students, giving them the opportunity to meet an upperclassman who will guide them into the right direction during their first year experience at Georgia Southern. This includes meeting with their MAP Sponsor to discuss any concerns in their personal or academic life, providing fun and educational programs for students of all backgrounds to attend in order to combat a fear of meeting new people and for the student to learn more about themselves through the help of a mentor. As a MAP Sponsor, my duties include: -Providing assistance to first year students in a way that is beneficial to their personal, academic and social circumstances in life or school. -Collaborating and planning programs within MAP and other organizations to provide opportunities for students to meet someone new -Encouraging mentees to find their potential and purpose in life -Assisting mentees in extreme situations (sexual assault, suicide prevention, etc.) by acting quickly to give them the assistance of other Georgia Southern departments -Inform first year students of their rights as a Georgia Southern student -Assisting students in building strong connections within their student organizations, professors and other people. -Providing the opportunity for MAP Sponsors to build networking skills and build connections with other MAP Sponsors and MAP Staff, including MSC staff as well.
