  Establishing and supporting Clean Coasts groups, facilitating environmental actions such as beach cleans, marine litter surveys and coastal protection works, developing resources and initiatives, organising and delivering educational events such as seminars, workshops and awareness raising days, promoting best practice in coastal management and liaising with local authorities on coastal issues. I also project manage Clean Coasts Observers, a citizen science initiative and Clean Coasts Biodiversity information pages on our website. These activities are carried out through the Clean Coasts programmes community engagement initiatives; Clean Coasts Week, the Big Beach Clean weekend, Love Your Coast Photography Competition, Clean Coasts Ocean Hero Awards, Clean Coasts Road Show, #2MinuteStreetClean, the Clean Coasts Corporate Volunteering Programme and the Clean Coasts Ambassador Programme. Clean Coasts has also joined international campaigns such as Beat the Microbead and #2MinuteBeachClean.My role on the Blue Flag programme involves assessing and monitoring beaches during the bathing season and liaising with local authorises in the North West when issues arise.The Blue Flag is operated in Ireland by An Taisce-The National Trust for Ireland on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised eco-labels. Beaches and marinas that achieve this accolade must comply with a specific set of criteria relating to water quality, information provision, environmental education, safety and beach management. At beaches the bathing water must comply with the excellent standard in accordance with the 2006 EU Bathing Water Directive.
