Undertook a six-week internship at a local college called Point College, an industry-driven college for a design student, supported by Filmpoint Group. The highlight of my time there was working in the marketing department. • I had to do telemarketing which is to contact students that might have interest in our college and encourage them to enrol. • I had to be patient when I tried to persuade them or answer their questions. • I helped the marketing department to hold events in the college such as open day, exhibitions, education fair and roadshow. Six weeks at Point college allowed me to • Grow personally, professionally. • Gained professional communication skills and experiences in building a relationship with customers and the procedures to run an event. • Organising an event requires a strong teamwork spirit and open-mindedness to accept constructive feedback from my colleagues and supervisors. • Help me improve the quality of my work and finish it efficiently. • Gained a better understanding of the educational industry, made a new network, and gained a few new references for the future. But most importantly, I gained a new sense of professionalism and a clearer view of the professional world. I really appreciate having the opportunity of doing an internship because there is so much to gain from it on both a professional and personal level. Show less

As I mentioned before, I volunteered in Vietnam and after the project ended, I continued my adventure by backpacking all over Vietnam. I made this decision because I am someone who is passionate about gaining more knowledge, skills and experiences. I also wanted to challenge myself to do something I have never experienced before which is to backpack by myself and travel with someone I meet along the journey. By this point, I have already spent most of my savings on this volunteering trip, so I decided to make a budget plan in order for me to begin my backpacking journey and to lessen the burden for my parents. Luckily, I am good at budgeting and planning as I was a treasurer in the Rotary Club of my secondary school. During this trip, I improved my social skills by meeting people from all over the world and backpacked with them. I have wide knowledge in various topics such as corporate finance, history, literature, culture and religion as I am interested in reading a different variety of books. This becomes handy because I feel more confident and it is easier for me to engage in a conversation using a common interest. I also used my interpersonal skills of practising active listening and having the flexibility to respect others’ habits and to agree with the differences in order to avoid conflict and embarrassment. Moreover, I also learnt how to be more independent and to discipline myself to follow what I have planned. After this trip, I became a more understanding person and I feel more open to embracing the diversity that exists between us. I really enjoy talking to people because in every conversation I will gain something new and see things from another perspective. Throughout this backpacking experience, not only did I gain knowledge but also a social network that I had built all around the world. This could be beneficial to me in the future while it also makes me want to visit their country and learn more about the different cultures and practices. Show less
