I have had the good fortune and privlege to coach and mentor hundreds of learners during my career, but confess to having become more selective about those I work with since leaving the military. The personal qualities I now look for in learners include respect for others, humility, a growth mindset, a willingness to be constructively challenged, and a desire to learn. I first met Oliver Wilkinson at a virtual networking event with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), and was immediately struck by his personable demeanour, ambition, and politeness. We subsequently arranged to have a follow-up meeting, during which time I learned more about his professional and academic goals. 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗻. Oliver already has leadership and organisational experience, as his LinkedIn Profile will testify, both as long-standing band member, and supervisor of a retail store. He is currently studying for a BSc in Digitial Marketing Apprenticeship with Anglia Ruskin University and GLO, an entrepreneurial Digital Growth Strategist. It's been several years since I last spotted someone with Oliver's potential, and although I consider it highly unlikely that we will ever work together in future, felt compelled to promote him to the best of my ability. I have no doubt that Oliver will excel in future, and has the necessary attitude, skills, knowledge and behaviours to be an asset to any entrepreneurial organisation, as he undoubtedly is to GLO already. I believe that Oliver still has three more years of his apprenticeship remaining, although I'd strongly recommend entrepreneurial leaders 'follow' him on LinkedIn now, and consider employing him in the medium-term, whilst they can still afford him! It was a huge pleasure to meet Oliver, and I have every confidence that he has a bright future.
