Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational engineering competition. Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such Patron, Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering.Due to the engineering nature of the competition, I was exposed to engineering processes and management. This later lead to me becoming team leader on the rear suspension rocker project, engaging with the Head of Steering and Suspension to further my engineering technical knowledge and understanding. Managing the design, manufacture and implementation of components, undertaking basic calculations and Finite Element Analysis.Key Skills and Responsibilities (2016/18):• Lead Project welder (Mild steel, Aluminium).• Design, Testing (Using Finite Element Analysis in Ansys) and managing the manufacture of the competition car's Rear Rockers which are a key component in the rear suspension system.• Using my own initiative and innovative approach to focus on weight optimisation, design for manufacture, minimal material wastage and areas of high stress.• Basic training and usage on Industrial manufacturing equipment (Digital lathe and Milling machines).• Working with Masters level and below engineers to formulate operational processes implementing Lean strategy where necessary to achieve strict deadlines in the manufacturing schedule.• Using Solidworks and Additive Manufacturing to accurately test my designs after Static Structural analysis in Ansys.
