An integral member of the neutron detector development team working to identify and develop radiation detector technology. Key skills developed include laboratory evaluation, data analysis and circuit development. Key Projects Aquila: New ASIC Dose Sensor Development Board • Adapted an existing Kromek product to create a new sensor development platform. • Updated the existing schematic and produced a new PCB layout with a focus on I/O flexibility and access. • Undertook significant debugging and validation procedures to ensure the new development board was suitable for future sensor development work. Kromek: Custom Sensor Test Board PC Interface • Developed a Python based interface for a new sensor testing board. • Utilized the pyBoard microcontroller and Micro Python language to quickly and reliably provide a digital interface between the PC and sensor test board. • Produced a clear and comprehensive interface user guide to ensure future ease of use. DARPA: High Dose Sensor Range Extension • Developed the design of an existing Kromek sensor to reduce noise and dark time. • Conducted laboratory evaluations of in house and third party detector technology. • Presented findings in report to client with recommendations for future testing and development. A key EC&I team member on multiple remote handling projects, utilising a multidisciplinary approach to deliver solutions to enable complex tasks in hazardous nuclear environments. Key skills developed include critical thinking, adaptability and team working. Key Projects DSRL: Silo Waste Retrieval System Design • Developed the Systems architecture, LV design, and viewing and lighting strategy to advance the electrical design from concept through to scheme. • Developed a complex cable management solution while working within the constraints of the mechanical system. • Utilised Electrical CAD to develop and maintain electrical design documentation including the system BCD, SLD and cable route drawings. VNS: Resolver Excitation Amplifier Design and Development • Lead the development of the amplifier from early concept through to small volume production; this included the creation of schematics, PCB layouts and manufacture documentation. • Undertook the assembly and testing of multiple amplifier prototypes with each test used to inform the next stage of amplifier development. • Ingeniously integrated the amplifier cooling and mounting to reduce system footprint. • Supported the integration of the amplifier into larger systems. ITER: ASIC Test Bench Detailed Design and Commissioning • Took a lead role in the development of test bench electrical schematic and managed the implementation of the electrical design. • Worked as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside external project partners to deliver a fully commissioned test bench in a compressed time frame. • Presented the full functionality of the test bench to the client via a practical demonstration. DSRL: Shaft Intervention Platform Test and Commissioning • Supported the integration testing and commissioning of the Shaft Intervention Platform through identification of technical issues and implementation of design changes. 12 Month Industrial Placement (Full Time) I completed my industrial placement at Royal Haskoning within the Building services department working as part of the electrical design Team. While working at Royal Haskoning I undertook work on a range of international and domestic projects including a shipyard in Kazakhstan, an Energy from Waste facility near Worcester and a training college in Daventry. My responsibilities at Royal Haskoning included producing detailed and concept electrical designs, undertaking site visits with senior engineers, updating electrical design drawings and assisting in document control. Working on the different projects at Royal Haskoning allowed me to gain significant technical experience and knowledge in the following areas. - LV Distribution Design - Small Power & Data Detailed Design - Lighting Design - Building Load Estimates - Process and Admin Building Feed Design - Building Lightning Protection Design - Material Quantities calculation As well as gaining technical knowledge and experience I also gained experience in project and design management. One of the key lessons learnt was the importance of a detailed design log that includes design revisions and details about the changes between the different revisions. This is important for quality control, technical and commercial reasons. While working at Royal Haskoning I undertook 4 site visits with two based in the UK and two based in the Netherlands. The first visit was to Grangemouth Falkirk as part of a HV grid study, the second was to the Ford Daventry Training College to inspect the instillation of the building services, the third was to the Nuon District heating facility in Almere and the final visit was to the new Eon Maasvlakte Power Plant 3. The final two visits were part of an exchange were I worked out of Royal Haskonings Rotterdam office and visited the sites in more of an educational capacity. Show less

Leisure Attendant
-
2010 - 2014
Lifeguard on casual (0 hours) contract. While undertaking my A Level studies and the first three years of my degree I worked for Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) at Scissett Swimming Baths as a leisure attendant. My responsibilities at KAL involved cleaning the entire site to maintain hygiene and safety, lifeguard public swimming sessions, run activity sessions and pool parties. Alongside gaining lifesaving and first aid skills while working for KAL I also gained significant experience in working and interacting with a wide variety of different people with varying ages, abilities and backgrounds. I worked as part of a team to provide a safe, clean and fun environment for customers to partake in leisure activities. Working at KAL significantly improved my communication and ability to remain calm and act accordingly during a difficult situation such as rescuing a person or dealing with an angry customer.
