Lead Weapons Instructor
-
Nov 2015 - Apr 2021
Since 2015, qualified as a military instructor teaching phase 3 students on an extremely busy operational platform. As a crew served weapons instructor I teach CH47 Crewmen and Pilots the handling and application of the helicopter-mounted weapons used to defend the aircraft and its crew on operations. This includes a mix of classroom and synthetic training on the ground as well as the planning and execution of airborne training on live air weapon ranges both in the UK and abroad. My key goals have always been to inspire confidence and competence in the students; each student learns differently so I find it important to identify each student's best method of learning so that they retain and develop their skills the the most effective way possible. Given that the crews will deploy these skills in some of the worst situations possible, it's important that each student has retained their skills in the best way to them, so that they have maximum capacity to deal with the situation and complete the job successfully.Appointed Lead Weapons Instructor in January 2018, I am now responsible for of all the instructors on my Sqn, ensuring they are delivering a consistently effective level of instruction. I coordinate the delivery of training across the Sqn to ensure the right people are being trained at the right time to match the operational output of the unit. I also work to develop and adapt our education, trying to find new and innovative ways of delivering the knowledge and skills so that our crews continue to develop their understanding of the weapons and how to use them.My experience has allowed me to advise on the development of new training methods including the test and application of various synthetic training systems to promote the most effective and dynamic training environments possible.
