I have been working in the accountancy section of Dover District Council and have gained an insight into the workings of Local Government, gaining experience in Local Government finance. I mainly worked with the HRA team, and I also have experience on General Fund activities, having undertaken the Museums visitor information schedule and I have an understanding of insurance policies. I have good IT skills, especially using excel and have a working knowledge of using eFinancials. Whilst working in accountancy, I prepared the weekly rents information from Northgate to interface with eFinancials. The involved ensuring the data balanced back to the rents system before uploading the journal. This was approximately £350k per week.During my work experience at DDC, my manager obtained the correct approval to employ me on a casual contract and I was asked to undertake a project on homelessness. This involved compiling a spreadsheet to list and monitor the people/ families in temporary accommodation and the associated costs and income. The main focus was on reconciling the housing benefit and universal credit received against each person/ family. From the information gained from the project work I prepared information for my line manager to take to meetings with officers of the senior management team and members of the Council. I was in regular communication with officers in the housing options section.I regularly use the budget monitoring system (an in-house application) at DDC. Show less
