Our mission statement: Red Bird Mission, guided by Jesus Christ, empowers individuals and advocaated justice by providing spiritual, educational, health, and community outreach services." In addition to Red Bird Christian School, we have a dental clinic; a used clothing and furniture store; food bank; health services; a craft store; and we provide various social services. Core to our mission are service to the needy and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our services are free to the poor or at minimal cost based upon income. We are a mission ordained by God and admonished by Jesus Christ to serve the poor and to preach His gospel. We depend upon private donations especially from the general United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women; support from alumni of Red Bird Mission School; and many friends. In 2014 we will reopen our dormitories and once again become a boarding school. I am the CEO and spiritual leader of the Mission. Our missionaries come from all across the United States to serve here. Many are volunteers. We have a total nearly 90 personnel including both missionaries and local employees. I am also the chief fundraiser for the organization together with a small development staff. "Managing with the Wisdom of Love" by my professor at Vanderbilt, Dorothy Marcic, is my favorite book on organizational leadership and management. I am proud to be the very first native Appalachian to be Executive Director in the 92 years history of the Mission.
