All West Flemish schools strive to conduct a quality health policy and implement it effectively, taking into account the specific school context. Why focus on a qualitative health policy? Because it ensures that people - society's most important capital - become, are and remain healthier. ■ The health policy aims to change/improve the school climate in order to generate a positive impact on the final target group. Thus, more needs to be done than health education: ■ Cooperation with and referral to external parties ■ Elaborating rules and agreements ■ Paying attention to structural measures ■ The entire school focuses not only on the pupils but also on the teachers, other school staff and parents. The health policy not only pays attention to psychological wellbeing but also to physical and social wellbeing. ■ Good individual pupil health care begins with collective health promotion and disease prevention, which is aimed at the entire school population. It acts on protective factors and pays attention to the whole spectrum of prevention, early detection, early intervention and cure. ■ The health policy is characterised by a target group-oriented approach. It takes account of the actual situation and the world in which those involved live. It starts from the situation and needs of the school population and the resulting problems and strengths. The fact that schools endeavour to develop a customised health policy is not an additional or new task. This task fits in seamlessly with the objectives of attainment and development goals. Schools are obliged to make an effort to pursue these objectives. From this point of view, the health policy is part of the integral school policy. Taking into account the framework set out in the board agreement of May 2013, two core tasks are outlined. Show less

    • Local consultation platform (LOP) Roeselare: Professional
      • Sep 2009 - Aug 2012

The LOP tries to give all pupils equal opportunities to learn and develop. At the same time, the LOP tries to prevent any form of exclusion, discrimination and social segregation. LOP gathers all education providers from the region and a wide range of local organisations that are closely confronted with (un)equal opportunities in education. The LOP has a research task: the local situation of equal opportunities in education is mapped out and dissected in an environmental analysis. LOP has an advisory task: at local, provincial and regional level, LOP can be the driving force behind changes and evolutions and give advice at all levels. LOP has a mediating role: in the context of the referral of a pupil, the mediation unit comes into action and helps to find the best solution for the pupil in question. LOP has a supporting role: in addition to passing on good practices, it can also develop instruments to help realise the right to enrolment. Project realisation : - Realisation 1: development of an environmental analysis of Roeselare in collaboration with the province of West Flanders (the social map) with a focus on equal opportunities policy and solving capacity problems. - Achievement 2: Enrolment policy for schools in Roeselare and its surroundings.
