Energy Efficiency R&D: Lead the Energy Effiiciency R&D programs, including overseeing Customer Advanced Technologies, Deep Energy Retrofits, and Zero Net Energy Homes. The program demonstrates and tests advanced lighting, cooling, whole home, and solar technologies, moving towards mainstream zero net energy/peak/carbon buildings. Climate Change: Lead the Climate Change program at SMUD within the Energy R&D program and works in a variety of areas around Climate Change including AB 32 Cap and Trade implementation, emissions inventory, state and federal climate policy, GhG strategic planning, Local Climate Action Planning, and Carbon offsets. He helped develop SMUD’s Carbon Offset program, and was responsible for the first inventory certified with the California Climate Action Registry. He also participated in the development of the Power and Utility Reporting Protocol with CCAR and the Electric Power Sector Protocol with The Climate Registry. Solar: Lead and later supervised efforts on solar forecasting validation through a 66-station solar monitoring station network deployment, along with evaluating solar variability and variability forecasting. He has worked on PV performance monitoring for SMUD’s fleet of 1,400+ PV systems for 6 years, including the development of performance indexing software. He currently works on solar R&D, commercial and residential solar mapping tools including the SMUD Solarmap, solar resource monitoring and assessment, and utility scale solar evaluation for meeting SMUD’s Renewable Portfolio Standards.
