Nicolau always stood out from the other students. He would not limit his studies to the courses’ program. He would always go beyond it, researching how the courses’ subject could be applied and, moreover, applying in order to reach his own conclusions. Therefore, he would always perform his assignments in a way he could deeply understand the subjects and its applications. His self motivation together with his intelligence certainly makes him an excellent person to work with.

Geekie is an ed-tech startup that develops a learning platform. Winner of IBM SmartCamp Latin America 2013. I worked at Geekie's computational intelligence team, dealing with data analysis problems, especially statistical inference problems related to Item Response Theory. I also studied new methods to solve pattern recognition problems such as study recommendation to students. Additionally, I did some web application and infra-structure development. Worked on the Featherweight book scanner project, for Google Books. Developed a technique to fit isometric mappings (ie. developable surfaces) to 3D range data in order to dewarp pictures of open books.
