Primary responsibilities: process and procedure development and logistics for coil manufacturing. General- I was the point man for many development activities in designing the 32T all superconducting user magnet. Logistics- I was responsible for handling of projects from the point of design to completion. This would include: participation in the conception of mechanical designs, detailed drawing review, hardware and material specification, materials quote request and analysis, in house and outsourced machining, purchasing raw stock, machining quote request and analysis, receipt and quality control of machined parts, procedural methods for assembly and usage, supervision of assembly and usage, review of hardware iterative design and manufacture, and appropriate storage and detailed comprehensive functional and inventory of equipment, materials, and hardware. Planning- I was responsible for multiple forms of planning. Logistical or resource planning as described above, as well as activity coordination. I regularly scheduled tasks for prototype manufacture, testing and analysis. I organized and trained personnel to handle and quality check the YBCO conductor. Testing- I was responsible for coordinating or performing various testing activities, including cryogenic temperature sensor calibration, high field hall (magnetic field) sensor calibration as a function of field angle and magnitude, cryogenic mechanical properties of glass reinforced epoxy (G-10) and Polyimide (85N). I did research on 3-D printed materials for high field cryogenic applications, where I studied the mechanical, dimensional and processing properties of acrylic materials. Analysis- I was responsible for analyzing novel electromechanical characteristics found during testing the prototype coils. I developed a mathematical model for the inductance change due to hoop stress. The fix for these voltage spikes is currently being developed.
