I work with Patch on a new project that our company is launching. Patch is a fast learner who can adapt quickly to feedback and acquire new skills in a short amount of time. Despite several challenges and unexpected changes, she managed to find solutions and push through. I really admire her teamwork-spirit and sincerity. Her positive attitude brings enormous joy to our team.

I had the unique experience of working with Patch as a supervisor during her eight-month position as an Orientation Team Leader, but have known Patch personally for over a year. Throughout our time together, Patch’s ability to remain positive despite long work days (over 60 hours each week), complete administrative efficiently and effectively, and build lasting and genuine relationships with over 140 students consistently impressed me. Patch was selected to represent Tulane University as one of 10 Orientation Team Leaders (OTLs) during New Student Orientation (NSO), a series of overnight programs that facilitates the successful transition of first-year students into Tulane University. This role is a highly selective autonomous position that requires event management, detail-oriented verbal and written communication, comfort within high-pressure work environments, effective teamwork, and strong customer service skills. Throughout New Student Orientation, Patch expressed these leadership skills with poise and maturity. Through the learning curve that came with these responsibilities, in addition to the long, rigorous work hours, Patch maintained grace and gratitude for the opportunity to grow personally and professionally. Throughout Patch’s time as an OTL, she continually identified ways in which her skill set could improve administrative functions for the team. In preparation for each orientation session, of which there were nine, OTLs took on the administrative tasks required to successfully implement each orientation program. Responsibilities included sorting Excel documents with over 350 entries, mail merging emails, name tag templates, and mailing labels, as well as preparing and organizing promotional materials. Patch not only completed each administrative task with enthusiasm, but she also frequently helped other team members complete administrative tasks who less familiar with computer applications as Patch. Her skillset with Microsoft Excel and mail merge, coupled with her enthusiasm to complete administrative tasks, served as an invaluable asset to the team. In addition to Patch’s valued administrative skillset, she also possesses an ability to effortlessly build genuine relationship that fostered mutual respect allowed her to excel as an Orientation Team Leader. Some of Patch’s responsibilities included facilitating multiple dialogues on topics including diversity, mental health, and alcohol consumption for groups of 22 first-year students. During these dialogues, Patch presented information concisely while also providing personal experiences that illustrated experiences of a Tulane student. Additionally, Patch whole-heartedly invested in the students she mentored throughout NSO. Through dedicating extra time to memorize each participants name, hometown, and other personalized information presented in small group discussion, Patch strived to create the best, most individualized experience, for each student within her small group.
