Acquisitions and Divestments:BHP Billiton Project Atlas LeadThe $20bn demerger, “one of the most significant shake-ups seen in the sector since commodity prices started to plunge at the beginning of this decade, undoes much of BHP's 2001 merger with South Africa's Billiton”. (Source: Reuters 6th May 2015) BHP Billiton was simplifying its portfolio to be focused on upstream Tier 1 assets, by demerging South32, with a complementary portfolio of high quality assets, many among the largest in their sectors, but of a different scale to those in BHP Billiton’s core portfolio, of 19 assets with a smaller geographical spread and a higher proportion of common characteristics.South 32 has the freedom to adopt a tailored strategy and regional operating model to facilitate cost reductions and improved productivity and will no longer compete for capital with BHP Billiton’s core assets. I was responsible for leading the design and implementation of 1Services and Group Applications scope of the demerger project. This included the conceptual, detailed design, execution and commissioning of a separation and integration project.As a lead, I was fully accountable for the documentation and communication on the status of project progress against plans, taking corrective action as necessary. Project risks and issues have been managed to ensure that the project meets the business objectives and stakeholder expectations. Through a proactive and effective engagement and maintaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, the acknowledgement of concerns have been ensured and appropriately addressed.With balancing scope, quality, effort, schedule, budget, and risks with ensuring project methods, standards, and approach are followed, I facilitated the synergies between projects, to increase productivity within Acquisitions and Divestments team, which lead into a successful and exceptional large scale demerger in only 6 months turnaround time.
