Was hired at earliest age possible (15) -- tutoring middle school students – until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, cutting this stint short; have recently (Mar 2023) returned to this role at Mathnasium (will now be tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students). During my Mathnasium employment gap, managed to continue to get paid private hours tutoring kids of family friends and relatives remotely. Jun 2022 - Jul 2022
Applied and was accepted into, and during summer 2022, I attended this highly selective residential STEM research program: The Summer Science Program (SSP) astrophysics research program, co-sponsored by Caltech, Harvey Mudd, and MIT. As part of a three-person team, I completed an astrophysics research project under guidance from college professors/mentors and TAs (at the New Mexico Tech host site), per the following related details. Select and then determine the orbit of the chosen near-earth asteroid based on the multiple observations/images we took of our asteroid using an integrated telescope/camera/imaging system at New Mexico Tech’s Frank T. Etscorn Campus Observatory. This involved implementing advanced concepts from astronomy, physics, mathematics, and Python coding to find the following six orbital elements that defined the asteroid’s orbit around the Sun: (1) longitude of the ascending node, (2) argument of perihelion, (3) semimajor axis, (4) true anomaly, (5) eccentricity, and (6) inclination. The determined orbit was also coded up in Python and mathematical-modeling simulations were then also run to estimate the probability of future close-to-earth proximity events of this asteroid. For our three-person team (including myself), as related to our research, my team’s observations and measured near-earth asteroid coordinates were submitted to the Harvard-Smithsonian Center-for-Astrophysics’ Minor Planet Center (to be used to further improve predictions of this asteroid’s position). Based on my SAT performance was invited to participate as a volunteer peer SAT prep tutor (for Math and or Verbal) via a College Board partnership with Schoolhouse.world (a recently founded non-profit -- by Sal Khan of Kahn Academy). Was trained up and then led online sessions of the “SAT Math Bootcamp” for a group of 10 HS students.
