      Research collaborator in the project "A multidisciplinary approach to assess the responses of fishing resources to protection (MARFISH)", coordinated by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) and the University of the Balearic Islands. My tasks are: -Study of population genetics of the commercial species (Mullus surmuletus, Serranus cabrilla, Scorpaena notata, Octopus vulgaris) and elasmobranch species (Rajidae and Schylorinus canicula), using Sanger sequencing. -Determination of the growth rate and the nutritional condition of the target species (Mullus surmuletus, Serranus cabrilla, Scorpaena notata, Octopus vulgaris) using the RNA/DNA ratio. -Determination of total lipids in liver, muscle and gonad samples from organisms of target species, using Folch's method, and fatty acid profiling, using chromatographic methods, in order to study the condition and nutritional quality of organisms. -Preparation, organisation and participation in oceanographic surveys for samples collection.       The main objective of this internship was to establish the basics of genetics population structure of Myliobatis aquila across the Gibraltar Strait. Thanks to my training in Genodream laboratories, I was able to specialize my knowledge in molecular biology, improving my extraction, amplification and DNA purification techniques, learning sequencing and bioinformatic analysis of specific genetic regions. I used bioinformatic programs like MEGA-X (Kumar, Stecher, Li, Knyaz, and Tamura 2018), PopArt 1.7 (Leigh, JW, Bryant D 2015), BioEdit (Hall, T.A., 1999) and Arlequin (Excoffier, L. and H.E. L. Lischer, 2010) in orden to perfom molecular species délimitation, genetic diversity index estimation and lay the foundations of genetic population structure of M. aquila. Show less
