  Responsibilities of a camp counselor working under STEM Camp include preparing and leading STEM based activities and games, supervising campers during lunch periods and outdoor recess, and ensuring a safe and respectful environment. As a camp counselor I along with my co-counselor were responsible for leading a new group of 8-12 campers in the (5-7) age group through STEM based activities every week during the 7-week period I was contracted. These activities could include experiments focused on science, design challenges, and even simple introductory programming activities. Every night, I had to familiarize myself with the given activities for the next day and make any modifications that I believed were necessary. Another important aspect of my employment was childcare. I was responsible for supervising the entire camp (30 children age range 5-13) during lunch breaks outside and at the local park. I also had to work either the before or after-care program where I had to engage with campers in safe and inclusive games and activities and assist in pickup and drop off procedures. I also had to occasionally solve conflicts between campers and help them come to a peaceful resolution, and I ensured there was always a respectful environment. Show less
