Plant Operator at Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal. It's part of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (Nigeria) Central-East hub and biggest in West Africa primarily for receiving, treating, storing & exporting crude oil offshore; and non-associated gas to the Nigerian liquefied natural gas company. RESPONSIBILITIES - Control process start-up, shut-down and troubleshooting of the crude oil and gas processing plant - Control process start-up, shut-down and troubleshooting of the produced water treatment plant - Start-up, shut-down and monitor running crude export pumps - Monitor outside process equipment of the crude oil & gas processing, and produced water treatment plant - Adjust equipment, valves, pumps & controls, and process equipment of the crude oil & gas processing, and produced water treatment plant. - Issue maintenance work permits and co-sign work orders - Shut down, isolate and prepare process units or production equipment for maintenance. - Sample products, perform tests, record data, carry out statistical control on process operations, and fill process parameter logs - Develop operating procedures for normal operation, start-up or shut-down of the process plant. - Participate in safety audits & incident investigation, and provide emergency response when required - Share in supervision and training of co-workers ACHIEVEMENTS I was selected by senior management to undergo a chemical application and optimization study with the production chemistry unit and product vendors. With my learning, I was able to aptly operate and adjust the flocculant injection system for treating produced water; this effectively reduced the effluent water disposal quality below the regulatory offshore disposal limit, and enhanced the chemical usage and available stock. I supervsied a team comprising 5 operators to desludge the pressure vessels of the produced water treatment plant. This activity helped reduce equipment downtime from frequent corrective maintenance.
