I returned to Neighborhood House to take over a promising, yet under-performing pilot project designed to improve kindergarten readiness and family engagement by expanding capacity of early learning providers and integrating systems within Portland Public Schools’ (PPS) to better support kids and families as they enter school. I developed a long-term plan for a multi-year grant then oversaw the operation and evaluation of the program at six schools. In an effort to better understand policy process and advocacy work in state government, I took on a role as the primary staffer for Speaker Pro Tempore of the Oregon House of Representatives and co-chair of the education subcommittee on Ways and Means for the 2014 legislative session. I tracked and monitored priority legislation through the committee and budget processes at the Capitol, worked to promote passage of targeted bills and coordinated legislative research at member’s direction. I led an extended-day program that provided academic and enrichment opportunities to reduce achievement gaps at a school with a more diverse and lower income population than nearly all other schools within the PPS district. With a team of 15 staff and 20+ volunteers, I implemented targeted grade-level academic interventions that served 100+ students per day while maintaining focus on recreation and enrichment. Here, I also spearheaded and launched a school-based food pantry in partnership with Oregon Food Bank that distributed 100,000+ pounds of food in its first year of operation, and initiated numerous additional strategic partnerships.

I coordinated a Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports program for 700+ students and implemented individualized interventions for students whose behavior and attendance were impacting their school success. The program, which supported many of the school's most at-risk students and families, included implementation of individualized interventions protocols for the first time. I also led data analysis of the project and led a team tasked with program oversight.
