• I am responsible for building an internal capital model for the company in preparation for the Solvency and Assessment Management (SAM) regime. • I am also responsible for coordinating activities around SAM within my company. • I am also part of my company’s risk committee and am currently working on developing a risk management framework. • I am involved in the calculation of pipeline premiums and unearned premium reserves within my company and have been instrumental in the development of a more sophisticated and automated methodology for estimation. The previous method used was a manual calculation that was time-consuming and prone to human error. • I work closely with underwriters, providing them with support in the area of pricing. I have developed several pricing tools that I currently use when assisting them. My intention is to provide them with training on the tools thus enabling them to use them in their day-to-day pricing activities rather than on an ad-hoc basis as is currently the case. • I also perform various analyses for management and assist in the extraction of data for statutory reporting and for rating agencies. • Actual vs. Expected analysis- this involved comparing our actual reserve run-off experience against what was expected based on our reserving methodology. Through this analysis I was also able to build a model for forecasting our underwriting profits on a quarterly basis over a single financial year. • I was also responsible for portfolio analysis which involved identifying key result drivers within the business and also explaining why actual experience differed from expected experience. This tied in with the actual vs. expected experience described above. • I was also involved in providing pricing support to underwriters during busy renewal periods. • Towards the end of my tenure I had begun assisting in loss reserving, responsible mostly for the establishment of loss development patterns.
