I have great pleasure in testifying the academic abilities of Mr. Nithin Thomas. I know Nithin Thomas personally for the last five years as an enthusiastic and proactive B.Tech student of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering discipline at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering. In my capacity as a Professor and later Dean research of the college I found that he is an outstanding student who was always focused on research and projects based on practical applications. Even though I haven’t taught him, he was in constant contact with me throughout his entire bachelor’s programme seeking my opinions and guidance. Mr. Thomas has made stellar performance in project development and paper presentations besides his outstanding performance in his B.Tech programme. Being constantly updated, he was very active and showed very much interest towards research and development. This was evident from his participations in a whole lot of technical and non-technical events during the course of his studies. Mr. Thomas is very much passionate about interdisciplinary research as I recall him working along with his seniors from different disciplines to put together a college research group by the name, ASPIRE which have successfully grown into a very big group including students from various disciplines of engineering and promoted interdisciplinary research works among them. I also remember various recognitions he received based on his community initiatives like an invitation to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Rural Affairs as well as an invitation to Silicon Valley as a delegate to attend the TieCon Conference there. He was always very much involved in activities. I believe, it was his insights from these experiences that made him to select a research work as his final year undergraduate project unlike conventional project topics. He was very dedicated and hardworking and never failed to meet a deadline. His work was on modelling and simulations as his interests were always in computational sciences. I have the deepest personal and professional respect for him, and sincerely believe Nithin Thomas will bring his energy, passion, optimism and tireless dedication to your class and university as a whole. I strongly recommend his candidature for any academic or industry position

Key elements of the research group are the application of statistical and machine learning methods as well as data science approaches to materials science problems mostly based on simulated data. With this focus the new research group strengthens and extends the “informatics” activities at ICAMS. Applications of these methods focus on bridging between simulation methods like atom-continuum or mesoscale-continuum and connecting knowledge from simulations to experiments. The research group 'Theory and Simulation' develop constitutive models for advanced materials such as high strength steels. As the mechanical properties are of main interest crystal plasticity modelling builds the core of the activities. For this purpose, a number of constitutive models have been developed in the last 15 years. These models cover the full range from phenomenological descriptions to physics-based formulations of dislocation slip and other deformation mechanisms such as twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) and displacive transformations (TRIP). To facilitate the implementation of the models the Düsseldorf Advanced Material Simulation Kit (DAMASK) has been developed. Show less

ICAMS focuses on the development and application of a new generation of simulation tools for multi-scale materials modelling with the aim of reducing development cost and time for new materials. Within the approach taken by ICAMS, the different length scales that are relevant for materials – from the atomic structure to macroscopic properties of materials – are bridged by an interdisciplinary team of scientists from engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics and mathematics. My responsibilities constantly demand our client satisfaction. We were initially a zero budget company with volunteers coding and designing products day in day out. My position involved maintaining the whole spirit and persistence among my colleagues. Most of my work went into HR development and management.
