During my first semester at IDC, I founded a podcast called, “Beyond the Classroom.” The podcast is featured as part of the University's radio channel which is accessible through different music platforms. The purpose of the podcast is for nontraditional students to learn from leading figures in different industries in hope to show that there is no one path to achieve success. So far, the podcast has hosted figures like Hever Schulberg, Doron Maman, Gur Shomron, Mishael Zohar, Neil Corney and Eran Rolls. Show less

For three years, I served as a Senior Sergeant in the 202nd Platoon in the Paratrooper Brigade, where I led my battalion’s ATGM team. Upon completion of my basic training, I was selected to complete the IDF’s prestigious and highly technical ‘Spike Missile’ course in order to return and command over the 202nd Platoon’s operational team. This role included planning and assisting with training all while developing drone technology. By the end of my service, I was awarded the Brigade’s 'Excellence Award for Leadership' and was ranked first in the 2020 graduating class. Show less

A year into my service, I experienced my first real tragedy: my friend took her own life. Like me, she was what the IDF calls a “Lone Soldier” — a soldier who left their home country in order to draft. Having a shared understanding of the common hardships that my fellow “Lone Soldiers'' face in the military, I decided to begin a movement called ‘The Lone Soldier Project’ in the Paratrooper Brigade. This project later expanded to other Combat Ground Units and hosted focus groups with high-ranking officers about soldier treatment throughout the military. Volunteering to serve in the military, in a foreign language and unfamiliar culture, is a difficult task, so the program aimed to build a system that put us face-to-face with IDF psychologists regularly. We also ultimately coined the term, “Independent Soldier,” to replace the widely recognized title of “Lone Soldier” in the Ground Forces. Show less

During high-school, my sister and I co founded a nonprofit program called Reboot. Reboot’s mission was to help low income single mothers achieve greater digital literacy. As part of the program, we drafted a basic curriculum, formed a team of bilingual (Cantonese and English speaking) student from our school, upcycled laptops using open-source software, and met weekly with participants to teach them to navigate computer programs like Microsoft Office, email, search engines, etc. By the end of the year, Reboot successfully upskilled 50 participants in Hong Kong. In high school, I wanted a greater connection to the Jewish community so I joined the Israeli youth scouts movement called ‘Tzofim.” Tzofim has the same organizational framework as the US Boy and Girl Scouts Federation and promotes non-formal education on social and Zionist principles for fourth through twelfth graders. In our Hong Kong chapter, I instructed a class of 4th graders for two years and was responsible for our annual winter trip to Shek O. By organizing and leading the young scouts through both educational and cultural activities, I helped them connect to their roots and gain their own sense of belonging despite living overseas. I also helped organize other events, such as the annual Jewish Women’s Association Bazar and the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony. Show less
