My role is based in a secondary school in East London. I work for an organisation called Place2be placed in a school to provide a mental health service.Part of this service is to offer one-to-one counselling for students who would have been referred and then gone through the assessment. Drop in sessions are provided for all the students and take place during breaks and lunch. As part of an holistic approach I also provide a service for parents and teachers which has the young person at it's centre therefore the therapeutic approach would be to focus on existing difficulties within the relationship between the young person/teacher and adult. I also offer small group work for young people around different areas for example resilience, anxiety, friendship/relational difficulties and bereavement.I work closely and regularly with my clinical supervisor at Place2be around all clinical work. I also work closely with outside agencies like social care/Mash teams and the local CAMHs service within the Borough.I am responsible for the overall administration of clinical work and assessment within the school. A part of the work I am extremely proud of is embedding a counselling service within my school and helping those in my care to have an understanding of the importance of looking after the mental health and for this to be normalised. Since being at my post, by working consistently, and applying these values I have increased the numbers of boys that attend one-to-one and drop in services.I have also continued to engage with continuing professional development particularly with workshops that would prove valuable to work with adolescents.Working within a Borough that is affected by gang crime I have also had to be flexible and available to deal with crisis management.
