      I want to be the challenging voice and accessible resource for helping achieve CO Safe Schools nationwide, so that those who come into contact with my work will feel inspired to become watchdogs of and active participants in creating solutions for their own communities. After my children were poisoned by carbon monoxide in their daycare in February 2020, I: ▶︎ Launched Change.org petition garnering over 5,000 signatures for carbon monoxide safety in Virginia schools ▶︎ Garnered 4 front page articles, an AP wire pickup story, 2 editorial boards, and (2) digital features in Military.com and WeAreTheMighty.com, as well as featured podcast on CO poisoning in schools ▶︎ Successfully rallied for law change in Virginia, resulting in the passage of HB1823-2021 almost unanimously in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate, without lobbyist support from outside organizations ▶︎ Submitted testimony and public comment to NFPA which resulted in code updates requiring CO detection in existing educational and existing daycare occupancies nationwide where CO-producing sources are present. ▶︎ Provided testimony to International Code Council in 2021 resulting in changes to the International Fire Code for 2024 IFC Edition – it will now require universal baseline requirements for CO detection in ALL commercial occupancies (new and existing) that have known CO sources. ▶︎ Taking what I learned in Virginia to the national stage with CO Safe Schools LLC – a business focused on public speaking, CO risk consulting, and helping others create change in their own communities Show less
