During the spring of 2008, Ms. Sauro was a student in my second semester organic chemistry course, CHE 332 (Organic Chemistry II) and during the spring of 2010, she was a student in my CHE 470 class (Heterocyclic Chemistry). Ms. Sauro was a diligent student with a solid work ethic and very eager to succeed. Based on her mastery of the subject material, it was clear that she had invested a great deal of time to study outside of the classroom. She has a spark for learning and is a quick study. She rated among the top students in both classes. She undertook nearly 2 years of undergraduate research in organic chemistry with Professor Lynn Bradley as her primary advisor (I served as her secondary research advisor). She had a good deal of success and quickly mastered techniques such as preparative flash chromatography and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. During her final semester of undergraduate research, she designed her own experiments and proved to be quite productive. Her work will serve as the foundation for a publication with Professor Lynn Bradley and myself.
