Nikki is Extraordinary. Brilliant and remarkably organized. She is authentically of service with everyone !00% of the time - not just when she is working. I have observed her working within very trying situations and she is constantly giving 110%. Having Nikki on your team is a brilliant choice. Thank you Nikki for all of the work and support you have been for so many of us here in Sarasota.

It’s a community and collective of voices and ideas. That’s what makes supporting local so special. It was fifteen years ago that members from the Sarasota and Manatee area’s restaurant community came together to unite independently owned restaurants and identify our region as a culinary destination. By bringing together restaurants through membership, we could showcase the best of our combined culinary offerings to a broader audience. As our local, small businesses are able to grow together, they’re empowered to give back in even greater measure. Working toward shared success, the Originals proudly feed the reaped rewards back into their neighborhoods. Independent, locally-owned restaurants nourish their surroundings, strengthening the relationships, health, and economy of their community. The Sarasota-Manatee Originals is dedicated to promoting and sustaining the local independent area restaurants, and providing diners with unique local flavor. Our Member restaurants help define our Suncoast, give it character and make it a memorable town to visit and live. We urge you to support our local independent restaurants here and across the country and encourage you to always “Eat Like A Local.”

Mission One of our goals is to raise awareness of the importance of independent restaurants in a community. Whether it's Sarasota or Sacramento, Bradenton or Biloxi, only independent restaurants can showcase the flavors unique to each region - and the money you spend at an independent stays within that community! Company Overview THE ORIGINALS are a group of over 50 locally-owned independent restaurants with a passionate desire to celebrate and preserve our community’s culinary “sense of being.” Nowhere is this sense of independence and quality more important than the Sarasota-Manatee area. Within a 20-mile radius of downtown Sarasota, there are more Florida Trend Award and Zagat top-scoring restaurants than any other area of the state and every one of these award winners is independently owned. We’re obsessed with the flavors that define our region and are always looking for ways to incorporate interesting styles of cuisine from around the world into our own brand of Sun Coast dining. We devote our time and energy to providing you with the best dining experience your money can buy. We live here, work here and play here. We’re a part of the community that embraces the exceptional quality of life the Sarasota-Manatee region is known for. We appreciate your business and enjoy being your neighbors. We hope you will THINK GLOBALLY AND EAT LOCALLY!

At that time, North Port was a rapidly growing community with many residents new to the area, and it faced a host of challenges that come with such growth and demographic change. Gulf Coast recognized an opportunity to build leadership within this dynamic community by providing high-quality training and resources to foster a network of skilled leaders who reflected the diversity of North Port’s public, private, and nonprofit sectors. After two successful North Port Leadership Institute classes, aspiring leaders from other communities asked for similar training opportunities, so we expanded our leadership initiative to the wider region. Nine classes of Gulf Coast Leadership Institute later, some 270 community members have participated in the annual program, and many continue to work together on projects to improve their communities. Gulf Coast works with the nationally recognized J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, a public outreach unit of the University of Georgia, to provide instruction for this initiative. The application process is competitive, and Gulf Coast offers all training and resources at no cost to participants in exchange for their commitment to use their new skills through community service. Gulf Coast also fosters continued development of this network of knowledgeable leaders by hosting biannual reunion training sessions open to all Leadership Institute alumni. These sessions are also led by faculty from the Fanning Institute.
