We have worked with Nick for 2.5 years on developing an in-house transaction monitoring system and many other compliance automation projects. Hired in early 2021, Nick had no experience with Python that we've been using in the dev team. In just two weeks, Nick started to write beautiful idiomatic Python and became fully productive with the language and its ecosystem! Nick has exceptional debugging skills. They allow him to find a needle in the haystack of microservices. Nick's other superpower is maintaining the code. Almost all his contributions to the code reduce the technical debt, not grow it. By following the boy scout rule "always leave the campground cleaner than you found it", Nick also sets higher standards for the team. It's a beneficial long-term strategy for our team that works on complex technical projects. Nick is also one of the best duty engineers I've worked with. He's always ready to help the users and support team as second-line support. He also uses duty engineering rotas to fix annoying bugs that otherwise would interrupt developers from something important. Nick excels at code reviews. He finds bugs and suggests how to simplify the code. He never wastes time on the "bikeshedding" matters. Quick, thoughtful, and friendly is Nick's code review approach! In addition to excellent technical skills, Nick also has well-developed soft skills. He's well organized. He communicates with ease across the teams and roles. That makes him a valuable asset to remote-first distributed flat-structured companies. All in all, Nick is a fantastic software developer! I would love to work with him in the future. I highly recommend Nick for any software engineering position.

Compliance and transaction monitoring for fintech startup. Something I worked on: - Implementing fraud-detecting algorithms for transaction monitoring; - Optimizing sanctions screening algorithm to decrease manual screening workload, improved algorithm precision and reduce false positive ratio 5x; - Implementing and scaling evidence collection chat forms for the mobile app; - Optimizing and scaling app performance. I worked on commercial infrastructure driving company sales including: - CRM services (receiving leads, distributing sale managers workload, sales analytics, etc); - Billing services (pricing, payments, refunds, bills); - Legal documents exchange with customers. Started as a junior backend engineer and grew to a tech lead in my team. Some of my solved tasks and achievements: - Dramatically reduced load on elasticsearch cluster (from full CPU load and denial of service to almost 10% CPU load) by different query optimizations and implementing search result caching; - Improved duty engineer and customer experience by adding Sentry to the team processes; - Implemented business rules for automatically choosing best sale manager for customer service in CRM and by that improved customer satisfaction and income per client; - Implemented complete internal CRM system backend for all company sales; - Gradually migrated customers data from legacy CRM to new service (providing new business capabilities) without outages of service and made transition seamless to customers; - Reduced concurrency problems (consistency bugs and server-side errors) in code and reduced customers incidents by integrating event bus in microservice architecture; - Onboarded and mentored 7 engineers.
