Niki is a powerhouse of knowledge within the financial services industry and I learnt a lot from her during her time as Aquis Chair. Niki is insightful and has an approach that asks the right questions to make people think about challenges in ways that they perhaps hadn't considered before with a high degree of attention to detail, it was a pleasure to work alongside her.

After joining Merrill Lynch in 1993, Niki initially worked in Finance and then in Equities as a business development manager setting up new trading products and execution management technology in Europe and the emerging markets in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 2001 Niki took on the role of running Merrill Lynch’s first electronic trading desk and client facing technology platform which managed the electronic order management interface with retail and institutional clients, as a prelude to her role as Head of Market Structure and as a member of the European Equity Management team up until 2008. In her role as Head of Market Structure, Niki was responsible for Merrill Lynch’s relationships and developments with the stock exchanges, multi lateral trading facilities (MTF’s) and clearing houses, all related cost management as well as advising the firm and their clients on the changes in equity and derivatives market structure. She was also responsible for identifying and implementing Merrill’s strategic investments in market structure and technology related companies. During her time at Merrill Lynch, Niki was instrumental in creating competition and change in the European trading environment; spearheading the development of the trade reporting system BOAT, the Trade Ideas system and acting as a key founder of Virt-x and Turquoise, as well as working closely with the UK and European regulators on the evolution of MiFID.
