  Since around 2017, I have been deeply involved in creating music independently alongside my studies and other committments. My main project is under my own name, where I have crafted numerous albums in the realm of abstract hip-hop, amassing up to 100,000 streams in total, but alongside that I record folk/rock music as part of a band. I have learnt many skills in the process of self-releasing music in seeing a project from start to finish - the long and bureaucratic process of clearing samples, the process of conveying my own experiences through rap, the technical side of mixing and mastering, and the eventual work of distributing. I have been uniquely primed to understand the strategy needed in the modern music marketplace. For example, in 2019 on the social media platform Reddit I used a 'bait-and-switch' viral marketing tactic: to promote the album I released weeks before, I created a comedic acapella parody version of another album. The acapella album recieved tens of thousands of streams: I then directed listeners to my other music, successfully amassing more listeners. My fluency with rap has only helped my communication skills - I have been tasked to create freestyles on The Great Recession, amongst other things, and I believe in it as a medium to not only entertain but also educate and engage an audience.
