As a part of the 'Researching Reality' intern team, I wrote a policy paper on the legal anatomy of section 12(1)(c) and 12(2) of the Right to Education Act, arguing that the expropriatory nature of reservation in private institutions entitles affected owners to prompt and adequate compensation, subject to legal safeguards. Performed Legal Doctrinal research, case law analysis, in-person stakeholder interviews, Ishikawa cause-affect analysis and literature reviews to understand the flow of money and identify bottlenecks. Using this information and theoretical economic frameworks, we examined stakeholder behaviour using interest-incentive-infotmation tables and used that to suggest policy imperatives. Show less

Working under the Development Monitoring Evaluation Office of NITI Aayog, I completed a research project linking political favouritism by the centre among the states to the economic outcomes of Indian states over a span of five years controlling for state and time effects. I employed R for my statistical analysis and used NFHS-4 survey data for my variables. I created a new proportional dummy variable and regressed state gsdp outcomes on it. I used a log-log model and log-lin models to test the robustness of my results. Results indicated that political favouritism by the centre for electoral gains does not significantly affect the economic outcomes of states, unlike the state-constituency favourtism which does affect economic outcomes.
