In this role, I’ve built data analysis pipelines (e.g., correlation, regression, and signal processing methods) for fMRI and physiological data to define blood flow metrics that could predict stroke risk. I also helped with the debugging of research software, e.g., uncovering false assumptions about input data and tuning of default parameter values. The tinkerer in me especially enjoyed contributing to the construction, testing, optimization, and calibration of an MRI-compatible physiological data monitoring/respiratory gas analysis system.

I’ve used multivariate models to link a vascular risk factor profile to changes in brain structure to better understand disease mechanisms in Metabolic Syndrome and applied generalized least squares and mixed-effects models to investigate effects of high blood pressure on blood vessels in the brain. I’ve also established collaboration with senior investigators at the NIH to obtain a data acquisition tool for the faster acquisition of much cleaner data. In addition, I’ve supervised junior staff and supported documentation of study processes, procedures, record keeping, and status reporting.

I’ve evaluated cognitive control, response inhibition, and perception in ADHD and cardiovascular disease by collecting and analyzing eye tracking, visual stimulation, and imaging data.As part of several research projects, I’ve used interviews, surveys, and lab tests to collect clinical, behavioral, and cognitive data in typically developing people and people with ADHD and schizophrenia.I’ve also developed data analysis pipelines to improve the validity of cognitive fMRI studies, e.g., by incorporating additional data to model and remove physiological noise in the fMRI data.
