    • Grade 6 Integrated Science Teacher, Science Department Chair and Teacher Mentor
      • Aug 2016 - Present

Our school was an early adopter of the Next Generation Science standards, engaging with professional development through the UCLA Science Project to design and implement Integrated Science Curriculum. We spent two years engaging in a complete overhaul of our curriculum from discipline specific grade level curriculum to the California preferred Integrated Science model, working with the standards to ensure appropriate linear progression of content. For two years, we engaged in the lesson study cycle to evaluate and modify our NGSS aligned lessons and phenomenon-based units. Trained teachers in distance learning with multiple professional development sessions to prepare for the coronavirus pandemic. We went to full online learning with only two weeks to implement! I led sessions on how to use the many features of Google Classroom and how to integrate other apps and websites with Google Classroom. Show less

    • Girls on the Run LA Coach
      • Mar 2021 - May 2021

I initiated the first Girls on the Run team in Culver City to help bring kids back to campus after distance learning through the coronavirus pandemic. My hope was that this program could help students with the socioemotional learning they missed out on while learning at home. HEART & SOLE creates a positive, structured space for middle school girls to learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy, strengthen connections and develop life skills that will help them as they move through adolescence and beyond. With physical distancing and safety modifications in place, teams can safely meet in person or seamlessly adjust to virtual program, should there be a need. Show less

    • Girls Who Code Facilitator
      • Jan 2020 - Mar 2020

I initiated the first Girls Who Code club on campus at Culver City Middle School with hopes of getting more females interested in the future of computing. THE GENDER GAP IN COMPUTING IS GETTING WORSE. In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today, it’s only 24%. The percent will continue to decline if we do nothing. We know that the biggest drop off of girls in computer science is between the ages of 13 and 17. SISTERHOOD Join a safe and supportive environment of peers and role models where girls learn to see themselves as computer scientists. CODE Learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions that form the basis of all programming languages. IMPACT Work in teams to complete a computer science impact project that solves a real-world problem in your community. Show less

    • Grade 8 Physical Science Teacher
      • Aug 2009 - Aug 2015

8th Grade Physical ScienceThrough working with my PLC, we designed and implemented all curriculum to align with the Virginia Standards of Learning, focusing on inquiry-based investigations. Curriculum was designed to incorporate real world problems meant to capture students' attention, keep them engaged, and relate to their lives. Differentiation of lessons was a constant and necessary strategy to ensure all of my learners were in their zone of proximal development. In my last two years of teaching I really dove into incorporating more project-based cooperative learning experiences as authentic assessments to keep my gifted students engaged while allowing all students to thrive. My strengths lie in designing high level, critical thinking experiences and incorporating science sensors and technology into inquiry based investigations. Show less
