The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum and Gallery is home to the historic Lady Denman ferry and a world class collection of maritime and surveying objects. The museum also has two temporary exhibition galleries which showcase a changing program of contemporary art exhibitions. My position at the museum encompassed the roles of curator, registrar and collection manager. Under the management of the Museum Director and Board, I was responsible for exhibition development, research, acquisitions, registration, loans, database management, project management, grant management, collections care and conservation, disaster planning and preparation, and legislation compliance. I also managed a team of 10-15 volunteers on a range of projects including collection digitisation, conservation, registration, and research. In 2020, I played a key role in the redevelopment of the museum's permanent exhibition on the history of Jervis Bay. The result of this collaboration with Thylacine Design was the award winning exhibition 'Munggurra-Nggul' (meaning 'home-belonging' in the Dhurga language) which showcased new objects from the collection, and included First Nations objects and stories developed in conjunction with the Wreck Bay and Jerrinja Aboriginal communities. Courage to Care is dedicated to empowering individuals to stand up to discrimination and prejudice. Using the Holocaust as an example, C2C aims to educate and challenge museum visitors about the roles of perpetrators and bystanders. The exhibition travels to regional NSW, the ACT and QLD. As freelance curator on the Sydney exhibition my responsibilities included: supervising contractors during installation and de-installation, including overseeing the construction of exhibition elements; art direction; updating installation manuals; collection handling and condition reporting; sourcing conservation services; and packing objects for transport.
