Science Teacher
-
Sep 2020 - Present
I have recently been developing and implementing "Interdisciplinary Science" that weaves together traditional core disciplinary courses - Earth Science, Life Science, Chemistry, and Physics - into guided units that display the interconnectedness of scientific fields. Students are encouraged to be a part of the decision-making process regarding what to study during a given semester and show their understanding through strength-based writings, representations, and models. The studies are also customized for age, ability, and prior knowledge. The curriculum is aligned with the Mass State Standards and NGSS; and the variations in studies within grades are monitored so Tremont students meet the science expectations by their third and fourth years. In 12th grade and beyond, students further integrate science with engineering, technology, and applied science, following a model that combines Project Based Learning with Living Curriculum.
