Utilizing desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) mass spectrometry imaging to identify unique metabolomic signatures for benign and malignant regions in prostate biopsy cores. Data is analyzed through multi-variate statistical analysis in proprietary software and scripted R-code to create a classifier which is then validated on a separate cohort of samples. The research is conducted in multi-disciplinary team consisting of basic scientists, statisticians, pathologists and surgeons to validate DESI in hopes of developing this technique for identifying and grading prostate cancer and informing clinical decision making.
