Nicole is a diligent and conscientious worker. Her facilitation and leadership skills would be an asset to any group that welcomes her.

Working with Nicole in the editorial offices of UPEACE was a pleasure. Ms Loschke performed her duties (which included technical editorial work as well as organizing workshops and proactively engaging with the student community) to a very high standard of quality and left a positive impression on her friends and colleagues here at the university. I have no doubt that she will continue to apply her creativity, enthusiasm, and considerable talent in whatever working environment she chooses.

I work in immigration law with victims of crime who may qualifying for a special type of visa called a U Visa. These visas were designed for victims of specific crimes who cooperated with the police in the investigation and suffered substantial abuse. My job is to walk my clients through the U Visa process as painless as possible, and create a silver lining to the dark cloud that plagued their lives as a result of the crime committed against them. I also am responsible for marketing and public relations for the firm.

    • Editorial Assistant/ UPSAM English Support
      • Sep 2009 - Aug 2010

The University for Peace manages the Peace and Conflict Monitor, an online publication devoted to peace and conflict studies: www.monitor.upeace.orgMy responsibilities include writing articles, designing web layout and special features, managing html code, pitching themes, interviewing experts, corresponding with professionals and collaborating with other alternative media sources. The University has also developed a partnership with several universities in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa through the UPSAM program. The partnership expands the peace and conflict studies field by training professionals on how to adapt a peace education approach to curriculum development in their home countries. My current job also involves providing English support for the students in the UPSAM program. These students, from places like Sudan, Iraq, Jordan and Sri Lanka, earn their Master's degree at UPEACE entirely in English. While these professionals do have experience learning and working in the English language, a peace and conflict studies vocabulary presents challenges even to native-English speakers. This, matched with a classroom filled with international students, speaking at all levels of English proficiency, shapes the UPEACE experience. My responsbilities for the UPSAM program are to provide English support for these students. This involves curriculum development and English support services (i.e. private and group lessons, teaching the writing process, how to structure an argument and explaining peace and conflict studies vocabulary/theories/practices). I also assist students develop the curriula that will be put into practice in their home countries after they graduate.
